The Friends of the Library are currently seeking adult tutors for the Adult Literacy Program. |
Literacy is of vital importance to our community and our ever-expanding world. The mission of the A. K. Smiley Adult Literacy Program is to help improve our community’s literacy rates one person at a time. Our program assists English speaking adults, 18 years and older, who would like to improve their English reading and writing skills, through one-on-one professional and confidential tutoring. The duties of a volunteer tutor include: a six-month commitment of two or more hours per week to meet with and prepare to meet with the learner and a strong desire to create a respectful partnership with the adult learner to improve his or her reading and writing skills. The tutors and learners meet at A. K. Smiley Library and arrange meeting times convenient to their schedules. |
The Lincoln Memorial Shrine is currently seeking museum docents. |
|
The Lincoln Shrine docent plays a crucial role in the environment experienced by patrons. They greet visitors, answer questions and assist patrons in understanding more about the Shrine, its history and its exhibits. The Shrine is open Tuesday through Sunday from 1 until 5 p.m. Docents only serve a two-hour shift during that time. Besides set shifts, docents, with adequate notice, are frequently needed to fill-in for absent docents. Docents are also needed to conduct tours of
the Shrine offered during morning hours. For more information, please contact the
Special Collections Division of Smiley Library at (909) 798-7632. |
