Redlands Adult Literacy Program Awarded Grant

The Redlands Adult Literacy Program has been awarded a 2011 Community Impact Fund Grant of $9534 from the Community Foundation Serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.  The grant will be used to develop an adult literacy computer lab at the A. K. Smiley Public Library, expand public outreach to adult learners in the Redlands community and enhance the adult literacy tutor training program.  Stay posted to learn more about these enhancements to the Redlands Adult Literacy Program!

Redlands Adult Literacy Program:  The Board of Directors of the Friends of the Library, working in association with Smiley Library, recently launched the Redlands Adult Literacy Program to meet the needs of adult learners in the Redlands community.  It is estimated that 20% of adults in the United States have difficulty reading job placement postings, medical directives, voting materials, or other information critical to living in the 21st century.  The benefits of adult literacy are life changing!

If you are an adult, 18 years or older, and want to improve your English reading and writing skills or if you would like to become a volunteer to assist adult learners or make a financial donation in support of adult literacy, please contact the volunteer literacy coordinators at literacy@akspl.org or phone Smiley Library at 909.798.7565, ext. 4138 for further information.
